Cold violence refers to a situation where one party uses coldness, contempt, and indifference to suppress the other person over a long period of time, with the intention of breaking up or punishing or harming the other person. It is a malicious act that is deliberately intended to provoke conflict. What are the manifestations of cold violence?

1. Ignore

Ignore is a common form of indifference. When someone is ignored, their sense of existence is questioned, and their needs and emotions are disregarded. This behavior may manifest as a lack of interest in others’ conversations, an unresponsiveness to messages or requests, or even complete disregard for their presence. Those who are ignored can feel isolated and helpless, leading to low self-esteem and anxiety.

2. Indifference

Indifference is another common form of indifference. When someone ignores someone’s problems, concerns, or needs, they demonstrate an indifferent attitude. This behavior may manifest as a lack of empathy for someone’s pain or difficulties, and any lack of positive response or support. Those who are treated with indifference can feel abandoned and helpless, leading to disappointment and anger.

3. Silence

Silence is a common form of indifference. When someone chooses to remain silent, refusing to communicate or express their thoughts and feelings, they display characteristics of indifference. This behavior may manifest as not responding to others’ questions or opinions, not initiating conversation, or even refusing to communicate. Those who are subjected to the silent treatment feel ignored and voiceless, leading to loneliness and depression.

4. Control

Control is a subtle form of indifferent violence. When someone attempts to control others by manipulating, restricting, or interfering with their behavior, thoughts, or freedom, they exhibit characteristics of indifferent violence. This behavior may manifest as interfering with others’ decisions, limiting their freedom, or depriving them of their rights. Those who are controlled feel constrained and powerless, experiencing depression and fear.

5. Devaluation

Devaluation is a common form of indifferent violence. When someone uses words or actions to demean, humiliate, or insult others, it exhibits characteristics of indifferent violence. This behavior may take the form of criticism, ridicule, sarcasm, or malicious revelations. Those who are devalued experience damaged self-esteem and undermined confidence, leading to low self-esteem and anger.

Indifferent violence is a form of behavior that doesn’t involve direct physical or verbal violence but can cause psychological harm and pain. It harms others through neglect, indifference, silence, control, and devaluation. Understanding the manifestations of cold violence will help us better recognize and deal with this hidden violent behavior.
